20200708 WRITING - DAY 8

Yesterday's edited work: My Black Tee Shirt Everyone I know has a collection of seldom-worn tee-shirts.  I must have a hundred tees (stored stacked, stuffed and stashed) (in various places) around my bedroom.  The nice ones get a hanger in my closet.  The less-frequently-worn ones get folded and stored in a dresser drawer, seldom opened.  And the worn out ones occupy a shelf near my gym stuff.  And this is where my black tee shirt has been for the last several years. It was given to me years ago by my former significant other, Ed.  It's jet black, with a white image of 3 men on horseback, and in large white letters GEORGIA'S STONE MOUNTAIN.  I'm wondering now if the colors have significance.  Ed had visited Atlanta on business, and had gone to see the Stone Mountain monument which has carvings of 3 confederate generals on horseback. He brought me back the tee shirt as a "trip gift." Until the other day, I had never bothered to ask myself or anyone...

20200707 WRITING - DAY 7 (GEORGIA'S STONE MOUNTAIN)

Today I'll edit my BLACK TEE SHIRT piece, and then I'll modify my email to Ron Thornton into a possible FB post. Yesterday's efforts: My Black Tee Shirt Everyone I know has a collection of seldom-worn tee-shirts.  I must have 100 or more stashed in various places.  The nice ones get a hanger in my closet.  The less-frequently-worn ones get folded neatly and stored in a dresser drawer, seldom opened.  And the worn out ones occupy a shelf near my gym stuff.  And this is where my black tee shirt has been kept for the last several years. It was given to me by my former significant other, Ed Ross.  It's black, with a white image on it.  I'm wondering now if the colors have significance.  Ed had visited Atlanta on business, and had gone to see the Stone Mountain monument which has carvings of 3 confederate generals (Lee, Jackson, Davis) on horseback. 20200705 WRITING - DAY 5

Today I am feeling "pulled" away from doing this writing exercise.  I know it's important.  But I had a discussion with myself, jumping back and forth for a while:  I'd say "What is more important to you - writing, or watching the news?"  And then I'd answer that writing is more important.  So that side won, and here I am, reporting for work:  writing. Yesterday's efforts: ********** My Black Tee Shirt Who doesn't have a collection of tee-shirts?  I must have 100 or more stashed in various places.    The nice ones get a hanger in my closet.  The less-frequently-worn ones get folded neatly and stored in a dresser drawer, seldom opened.  And the worn out ones occupy a shelf near my gym stuff.  And this is where my black tee shirt has been kept for the last several years. 20200703 WRITING - DAY 3

*********** So, today I'll write my random thoughts about the tee shirt. It was given to me by my former significant other, Ed Ross.  He had visited Atlanta and had gone to see the Stone Mountain monument.  It has carvings of 3 confederate generals (Lee, Jackson, Davis) on horseback. I had never even known that it was a monument to these 3 who were enemies of the Union, slavery supporters, and fought against freedom and equality for black Americans. Today we're considering in the USA whether we should have monuments to confederate soldiers and leaders ANYwhere in our country.  Mississippi decided THIS WEEK to remove the confederate part of their State flag.  Wow - more than 150 years after the South lost the Civil War!  And some Southerners STILL want to keep the flag, and the monuments. Well, my tee shirt was a gift that I've been wearing - UNKNOWINGLY supporting the confederacy - for more than 20 years.  I'm sure that some have seen it and wondered why I ...

20200702 WRITING - DAY 2

*********** Introduction I have decided to try my hands at writing (typing).  Today is Day 1.  I am following the advice of Jeff Goins in YOU ARE A WRITER. Today, I will "show up for work," and give it a go.  For 7 days, I will return to the work I've done the previous day, and edit it as Goins directs. After 7 days, I will publish it here. My plan is to write for 1 hour in the morning, and for a 2nd hour in the afternoon.  This might change; I might begin writing early each morning for let's say..... 3-4 hours.  It will depend on how the 1st week goes. While "others" are reading my 1st work, I will be starting on a 2nd work. 1st work will be based on a tee shirt I have worn for years:  "GEORGIA'S STONE MOUNTAIN" *********** So, today I'll write my random thoughts about the tee shirt.
